I had the privilege of chatting with Instagram influencer Sewrena (real name Serena). Serena first became known for her vintage clothing and sewing. After a while, she expanded into vintage appliances and so much more. Serena told me she began sharing sewing with the vintage community, and the more she learned about the community, the more she fell in love with itt. Throughout the years, Serena would see something vintage and think, “If only I could have that.” Eventually, she learned she could! It was then that Serena and her husband bought what she called a “time capsule home,” one with vintage appliances and fixtures.
An Interview with Sewrena
How did you learn about Bar Keepers Friend?
“When we bought our vintage home, the original owners gave us the manual for the stove. Before cleaning it, I consulted the manual, and it suggested soap and water for cleaning, so I did just that. Then on my first video, someone suggested that Bar Keepers Friend could help remove the stains. One of my favorite things about the vintage community is how helpful the community can be. I don’t know what I expected from the Soft Cleanser because how do you gently clean decades’ worth of staining? Welp it worked, and I’m happy with the results. I guess they haven’t been around since 1882 for no reason.”
What BKF products do you use?
“They have a cleaner for everything, and I have found uses for them all over the house. As I mentioned, I was first introduced to the brand to remove the stains around the eyes of my stove. Then I noticed the Bar Keepers Friend Granite & Stone Cleaner & Polish granite cleaner (I had no idea I needed to condition the granite). Now I’m conditioning and polishing everything. The product I use the most is the Stainless Steel Cleanser & Polish. I never let myself run out of it. I also have Soft Cleanser in my house and garage and use the MORE Spray & Foam all over the house. And I’m getting ready to use the Bar Keepers Friend’s Coffee Maker Cleaner.”
Why do you talk about Bar Keepers Friend products?
“The vintage community is so protective of its collectibles. I’m often asked how to clean vintage pieces, from stoves to sewing machines, and I’ve learned that BKF products are safe to use. They’re mild, but they work. For example, I cleaned my mom’s glass-top table with BKF; next, I’m cleaning some antique Pyrex of hers.”
What’s it like working with the BKF staff?
“It’s wonderful. I told the team that collectors are very picky, and they said, ‘Serena, you do you.’ It’s great to collaborate with a team that thinks like that. I’m 100 percent a Bar Keepers Friend Fan!”
What Services does BKF provide you?
“They sent me a pack of their different products! When my husband saw it, he asked if Bar Keepers Friend had everything.”
Thank You Sewrena!
It was a pleasure talking with you. I genuinely enjoyed myself, especially when you told me you use BKF on your 1962 Chevrolet Corvair. So does my wife on her 1966 Corvair!
Note: I must warn you if you go Sewrena’s Instagram page It is a rabbit hole. I had so much fun browsing her page.. Did I tell you she has a Corvair?
