So, what cleaning tools should be used with Bar Keepers Friend? In article after article, we say to use soft cloths and sponges, but what is a soft cloth or sponge? Occasionally we talk about what not to do with BKF products, such as 8 Ways NOT to Use Bar Keepers Friend.   Here’s one example of what not to use. One of the gifts I bought my wife for Christmas was an InstaPot. I know, I know, an appliance as a gift? However, it’s something she wanted. So, my wife was out of town on business, and I decided to clean the stainless steel pot inside the device. My wife had made a fabulous clam chowder, but some had sat in the bottom of the bowl and hardened. I put the bowl in the sink, poured a little dish soap in, and added water. I grabbed a paper towel and rubbed and rubbed to no avail. Right there on the sink was a stainless steel scrubber, not made to clean stainless steel, but made of stainless steel. I grabbed it and cleaned the bottom in a circular motion. When I rinsed it, I saw that all of the goo was gone, but there were circular scratches. Why didn’t I grab the BKF? IDK, I wasn’t thinking. I certainly wouldn’t have used the scouring pad with BKF powder. I’d recently read, The 8 Do’s and Don’ts for Cleaning Stainless Steel. I knew better.
