Position Overview

The Ball Mill Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of milling operations across multiple shifts to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity objectives are consistently achieved. This role oversees production personnel, coordinates maintenance activities, manages material availability, and drives operational improvements. The Ball Mill Manager champions continuous improvement, ensures compliance with company policies and safety standards, and develops a high-performing team aligned with Bar Keepers Friend’s operational excellence standards.

Key Responsibilities

Mill Operations Leadership

  • Direct and coordinate day-to-day milling operations across multiple shifts.
  • Ensure production targets, quality standards, and cost objectives are met.
  • Maintain operational discipline and accountability throughout all shifts.

Inventory & Materials Management

  • Issue and manage purchase orders to support continuous production.
  • Monitor raw material inventory levels and ensure adequate supply.
  • Track materials usage to prevent disruptions while minimizing excess inventory.

Employee Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop production staff to foster a safe and productive work environment.
  • Provide performance feedback, skills development, and cross-training opportunities.
  • Oversee staffing schedules, performance evaluations, and employee development plans.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with employees and cross-functional peers.

Maintenance Oversight

  • Review equipment conditions and identify corrective and preventative maintenance needs.
  • Prioritize and coordinate maintenance activities to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Partner closely with Maintenance to ensure equipment uptime and operational readiness.

Process Improvement & Efficiency

  • Identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce downtime, and minimize waste.
  • Implement process optimization initiatives aligned with Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Drive measurable improvements in operational performance.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Enforce all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits and proactively identify and mitigate risks.
  • Promote and model safe work practices at all times.

Production Planning & Reporting

  • Monitor daily production metrics and evaluate performance trends.
  • Prepare reports and communicate operational performance to leadership.
  • Utilize planning tools to optimize resource allocation and meet business goals.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all finished products meet established quality specifications and standards.
  • Support quality initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

Cross-Functional Communication

  • Facilitate effective communication between shifts and departments.
  • Ensure alignment with company objectives and operational priorities.

Qualifications

Technical Expertise

Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, industrial equipment, maintenance practices, and inventory management. Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles preferred.

Leadership Capability

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams across multiple shifts. Proven track record of driving accountability and performance.

Problem-Solving

Ability to analyze operational data, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.

Communication

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively engage employees at all levels of the organization.

Computer Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with ERP systems for purchasing, inventory management, and production tracking.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing material crushing environment with exposure to machinery noise, dust, and moving equipment.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Availability for off-shift support, weekends, and emergency response as needed.
