Position Summary
The Glass Inspector is responsible for maintaining quality standards throughout in-process production by visually inspecting incoming glass material, identifying defects or debris, and ensuring all product meets operational and safety requirements. This role supports mill operations, communicates issues promptly, operates heavy equipment, and contributes to a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Quality & Inspection
- Sort incoming glass material, inspecting for debris or unacceptable contamination.
- Conduct continuous visual inspections and reject any material not meeting quality standards.
- Communicate required adjustments or quality concerns to the Glass Mill Manager immediately.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Safely operate equipment including forklifts and front loaders.
- Perform basic troubleshooting during production.
- Maintain and operate measurement equipment according to operating instructions.
- Submit repair requests when necessary.
- Perform PM greasing and assist with changing bearings.
- Ensure work areas and equipment remain clean and organized.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to OSHA and internal safety standards.
- Follow written and verbal work instructions accurately.
Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to safely drive and operate a forklift and front loader (training or certification preferred).
- Ability to follow written and verbal safety and work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify material defects.
- Basic troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodations)
- Ability to stand for 8 consecutive hours.
- Ability to wear a respirator.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to conduct repetitive visual inspections.
- Ability to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, and materials.
- Ability to bend, twist, and perform physical tasks related to mill operations.
- Ability to grasp, move, and assemble objects using one or both hands.
- Ability to see details of objects from varying distances.
- Ability to judge distances between objects.
- Ability to hear and respond to sounds in the work environment.
