The Backpack Attack is Back!

The Backpack Attack drive sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis is another example of Bar Keepers Friend giving back to the community. But it’s more than that. It’s helping children with the items they need to be successful this coming school year.

BKF and the Backpack Attack 

I asked BKF’S Content Marketing Specialist, Alexandra Davie, how Bar Keepers Friend got involved with the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis Backpack attack, and here’s what she said. “We participated in Indy Backpack Attack through Jewish Family Services at the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis. Rachel Katz, the Assistant Director there, is the daughter-in-law of some good friends of mine, and she had reached out previously to see if BKF would be interested in donating some products to their food pantry. Needless to say, we donated, and I followed their social media accounts. When I saw they were doing a Backpack Attack, drive, I really wanted us to participate. I placed boxes around the office and made posters with the supplies needed.

All in all, it was a successful effort, and JFS was incredibly grateful! They even posted us on their social media too. Such a wonderful organization!”

Do Many Kids Need Help with School Supplies? 

According to Hoosier Data, 19% of children living in Marion County live below the federal poverty line. These children are part of families struggling to house and feed them. Unfortunately, for these kids, school supplies are not a priority. When you’re unsure where the next meal is coming from, pencils take a back seat.

Items that most of us take for granted can be difficult, if not impossible, to attain for many children unless they receive help. Here’s a partial list of some of the most requested and needed items. Think about it, how would your life change without these items?

• Notebooks
• Hygiene Products
• Loose-leaf Paper
• Glue Sticks
• Erasers
• Calculators
• Tissues
• Scissors
• Rulers
• Disinfectant Wipes
• Pens
• Highlighters
• Markers
• Crayons
• Pencils

Could you do your job, run your household, or take a class without these tools? I don’t think I could, or at least it would be very difficult. Just think how hard it must be on a child.

A Call to Action 

That’s why Bar Keepers Friend initiated a call to action to our staff. Many of our team donated supplies, some gave cash, and others went shopping. It was a joy to drop off the supplies, but that’s not the purpose of this blog post.
