World Food Championship is Coming To Indianapolis!

October 17, 2024

We’re proud to announce that Bar Keepers Friend is the Official Clean Team sponsor of the 2024 World Food Championships (WFC), which will take place from November 8-12, 2024. This is the first time the WFC will be hosted in our great city of Indianapolis. BKF will supervise the cleaning of utensils, prep stations, and cooking spaces after every cooking session for the event.

Have You Seen the World Food Championship on TV?

You may have seen the World Food Championships on TV. It’s the largest food sport competition in the world, and it’s not about fancy exclusive chef categories. Instead, it focuses on everyday cooking. The event has been around since 2012, and some of the top chefs in the world participate every year. Over 300 cooks will compete for $450,000 in prize purses in 12 food group categories: burger, bacon, chef, live fire, soup, BBQ, sandwich, vegetarian, seafood, rice, noodle, and dessert. There will never be a dull moment at the World Food Championships

There Will Be Cheferees!

“Cheferees” (the referees for the WFC) will officiate the cooks. There are 20 contestants per category. The Cheferees will track as an unforgiving clock counts down the seconds. Contestants must complete the tasks before the clock strikes zero or go home!

Entries are judged on the EAT system: Execution, Appearance, and Taste. The judges give scores of 1 to 10, 1 being inedible and 10 being excellent. They also score on whether the cook successfully accomplished their recipe.

Samples and Demos

Visitors can taste samples, watch demonstrations, and visit the Bar Keepers Friend booth, where they can spin the BKF wheel for products and prizes! BKF Marketing and Sales team members will also be available to answer any questions.

If you really want to dive in, there’s a five-hour experience on Saturday and Sunday where attendees can sample dishes from previous WFC champions and drink samples from mixologists. Tickets include a passport to sample dishes at all 12 category stations, meet former champions, and attend demonstrations and Q&A sessions with Celebrity Chef Eric Greenspan.

WFC Promotes Sustainable Food Practices

Although the competition is at the top of the 2024 WFC list, much like BKF, the organization is committed to the environment and other causes.

“The World Food Championships (WFC) is proud to announce an expanded commitment to environmental sustainability at this year’s event in Indianapolis, November 8-12, 2024. As the world’s largest food sports competition, WFC is leveraging its platform to promote sustainable food practices and eco-friendly materials throughout the championship experience.

Central to our WFC values, we proudly partner with local nonprofits and charitable organizations, fostering impactful relationships: + Nourishing Communities: WFC contributes nonperishable pantry items to support local food banks, generating significant meals to address community needs. + Educational Partnerships: WFC collaborates with educational institutions, providing strategic internship opportunities for students and also extends financial support to these institutions, contributing to the development of future talent.” – 2024 WFC Intro Deck.

Stop By and Say Hi!

If you plan on attending this year’s World Food Championships, be sure to do the following: eat some great food, learn a few cooking techniques, of course, have FUN. Oh, and don’t forget to stop by the BKF booth. We’ll have lots of goodies in store for you – including a spinning prize wheel. Will you win a big prize? The only way to know is to stop by!
