Spotlight: Bar Keepers Friend Coffee Maker Descaler

April 29, 2025

You might know that Bar Keepers Friend has a Coffee Maker Cleaner, but did you know BKF also has a Coffee Maker Descaler? So, what’s the difference? The  Coffee Maker Cleaner removes the oily residue from your coffee maker, while the Coffee Maker Descaler removes mineral deposit buildup.

If your morning cup of coffee has become bitter, it could be due to mineral deposits inside your coffee maker. These deposits not only make your coffee taste nasty, but they can also damage your coffee maker!

Product Spotlight: BKF Coffee Maker Descaler

10 Steps to Descaling Your Coffee Maker with BKF Coffee Maker Descaler

  1. Remove any disposable filters or coffee pods from the coffee maker.
  2.  BKF Coffee Maker Descaler will not damage or stain most surfaces. However, if your countertops are marble, granite, or natural stone, we recommend covering them before cleaning.
  3. Empty the reservoir.
  4. Place the empty carafe or cup under the coffee discharge.
  5. Add one ounce of Bar Keepers Friend Coffee Maker Descaler for every eight ounces of cold water needed to fill the coffee maker’s reservoir.
  6. Initiate the brew cycle and repeat until the reservoir is empty. For coffee makers with a clean cycle, begin the clean cycle and allow it to run until it is done.
  7. Leave the cleaning solution in the carafe for 30 minutes.
  8. Discard the used Coffee Maker Descaler from the carafe or cup and clean the carafe or cup thoroughly.
  9. Fill the coffee maker reservoir with clean, cold water, and run another brewing cycle.
  10. Dispose of used rinse water and clean the carafe or cup again.

Pro Tip: BKF Coffee Maker Descaler is perfect for descaling Keurig products!

What Others Had to Say

“My coffee maker was taking so long to finish, and the reviews of Bar Keepers Friend descaler all said it descales best of all. It certainly did bring my coffee maker back to brewing coffee in a reasonable time. I will certainly buy it again.” – Allen R.

“I have a Cuisinart coffee maker that lets me know when it has to be cleaned. So, I followed the instructions for a cleaning cycle and it usually keeps the light off for about a week or so. I was tired of cleaning it and figured this was my last ditch attempt at cleaning. Just pour the bottle in and run the cleaning cycle, it’s that simple! I usually get a few pieces of calcium with just vinegar but with this I got a ton. The clean light has stayed off and there are 2 uses for a 12 cup pot per bottle.” – Blake R.

“I have used this descaler on numerous coffee makers (standard pitcher-types, as well as single-serve) and it has cleaned out the scale/crust from each one, making them work like new.” – C. Overtoom

“This was recommended to me and wow, our coffee hasn’t tasted this good in a long time. Very happy customer.” – G. Shirley

“This worked great on our coffee maker. It cleaned it right out! It started working as soon as it was done. If your coffee maker is clotted this is what you are looking for to clean it out. Make sure to follow the instructions. It is easy to use. They said to run clean water after that about three more times… I did it five times! Coffee tasted so much better after, too!” – Queen of Queens
