Why Bar Keepers Friend Should Be the Official St. Paddy’s Day Cleanser

March 15, 2023

So, why should Bar Keepers Friend be the official St. Paddy’s Day cleanser? The answer is that St. Patrick’s Day is synonymous with luck, and Bar Keepers friend oozes luck. Right from the start, BKF was a stroke of luck. George W. Hoffman didn’t plan to invent Bar Keepers Friend in 1882. It was luck.

Why Bar Keepers Friend Should Be the Official St. Paddy’s Day Cleanser

Was George W. Hoffman Irish?

George was cooking a batch of rhubarb when he realized his previously stained pot was clean, and it shined! Being a chemist, he was intrigued. So, he isolated the cleansing ingredient as oxalic acid, which naturally occurs in rhubarb, and voila! Bar Keepers Friend was invented.

Time after time, we hear stories about how lucky our customers were to find Bar Keepers Friend. How it saved them money, brought heirlooms back to life, or cleaned items they’d given up hope that they’d ever be clean again.

From Trash to Treasure

“I found a 12-inch All-Clad stainless steel frying pan in the garbage. Apparently, someone gave up on it, but I was up to the challenge. A few years ago, I had a nice chat with an All-Clad rep at Macy’s. She told me that the secret to cleaning their stainless steel pans was to use Barkeeper’s Friend. Not steel wool. Now I could put this knowledge to the test. The Barkeeper’s Friend liquid worked wonders!” —All-Clad Restoration Project. Sandy was lucky to know about BKF to bring this $120.00 pan back to life! Even if it wasn’t on St. Paddy’s Day.

Before you throw something away because it’s “impossible to clean,” give Bar Keepers Friend a chance. BKF to the rescue! There are scores of BKF fans who were lucky to know about BKF and not throw something away that could be saved. Read about some of them here, Don’t Throw That Away! BKF Can Save the Day.

Going Green Every Day, Not Only on St. Patrick’s Day

Do you go green on St Paddy’s Day? I have a green cap and a green St. Patrick’s day T-shirt that’s my lucky shirt. Bar Keepers Friend has been mean and green for years. Our products are biodegradable and safe for the environment. BKF takes environmental stewardship seriously. All our products are sustainably produced. But we go even further.

Rainwater Harvesting

“As an organization, we strive to use as few resources and as little energy as possible when manufacturing our products. One of the ways we do is with a sustainable water management practice called “rainwater harvesting.” Instead of allowing rain to fall to the ground, rainwater is collected and stored for later use. Over half of the water we use for our liquid product is rainwater. After our rainwater is collected, it’s triple filtered and then UV sterilized.

There are many environmental benefits to rainwater harvesting. For starters, the use of rainwater can help reduce the demand for water from municipal sources (wells, reservoirs, etc.), which can reduce strain (and cost) in case of an emergency. Harvesting rainwater can also reduce the amount of stormwater runoff – which often causes soil degradation.” — Environmental Stewardship — Our commitment to conscientious manufacturing.
