National Lasagna Day

July 31, 2025

In 2025, National Lasagna Day was observed on Tuesday, July 29th, but if your family is like mine, Lasagna is a year-round favorite. Summer, Winter, Spring, or Fall don’t matter because they are all Lasagna season. There are many versions of Lasagna, featuring a variety of noodles, sauces, cheeses, and other ingredients.

Regardless of your recipe, all these different kinds of Lasagna have this in common. It’s easy to let the baking get away from you and burn the pan. A burnt Lasagna pan can be a challenging cleaning task. Have you ever burned a Lasagna pan? I have. It’s a mess, isn’t it? The good news is that BKF has your answer.

How to Clean a Scorched Baking Sheet

  1. Wet the baking sheet.
  2. Sprinkle either The Original Powder Cleanser or Cookware Cleanser & Polish.
  3. Rub it in with a soft, wet cloth.
  4. Rinse it off with clean water.
  5. Wipe dry.
  6. Repeat as needed.

Types of Lasagna

Lasagna is a versatile dish. Depending on the ingredients and cooking techniques, it can be made into many different types. Here are some popular variations.

Classic Meat Lasagna

Layers of lasagna noodles, rich marinara sauce, ground beef or pork, ricotta cheese, mozzarella, and parmesan.

Vegetarian Lasagna

Instead of meat, this version uses vegetables like spinach, zucchini, mushrooms, or bell peppers. You might also add ricotta or other cheeses.

Chicken Lasagna

A lighter variation using cooked chicken, often paired with white sauce, spinach, and mozzarella.

Seafood Lasagna

It is made with seafood like shrimp, crab, and scallops, and a creamy white sauce or a combination of marinara and white sauce.

Lasagna Bolognese (Ragù)

A variation of the classic meat lasagna but with a rich ragù sauce (slow-cooked meat sauce with vegetables, wine, and milk or cream). Typically layered with béchamel sauce.

Lasagna Alfredo

Uses a white sauce like Alfredo, with layers of cheese, spinach, mushrooms, and other vegetables or meats.

Mexican Lasagna

This is a fusion version that swaps traditional pasta for tortillas and uses ingredients like ground beef, black beans, salsa, and cheese, often spiced with taco seasoning.

5 Lasagna Facts

  1. The first Lasagna was made in Greece in the 14th century, at the height of the Black Plague. Interestingly, this pasta dish was made specifically for special events and holidays.
  2. The original recipe of Lasagna didn’t contain meat. The first recipe contained artichokes, eggplant, spinach, ricotta, and grated cheeses.
  3. The first printed recipe for Lasagna dates back to 1634, when Giovanni Battista Crisci published it. The original recipe was known as “lasagna di Monache stufata, mozzarella e cacio.”
  4. King Ferdinand II enjoyed “lasagne di carnevale,” a Neapolitan Lasagna made of meat ragù, small fried meatballs, hard-boiled eggs, and mozzarella cheese.
  5. The most expensive Lasagna in the world is found at the Portofino Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Known as the Diamond and Gold Lasagna, it sells for $100 a “slice” and consists of Kobe beef, Iberico ham, prosciutto di Parma, porcini mushrooms, and foie gras Alfredo sauce.
